Laser cleaning in general is more effective, safer, environmentally friendly, and superior to traditional methods of cleaning. While lasers are ideal to use on most surfaces, there are limitations.
Unlike sandblasting or dry ice blasting, laser cleaning is safer for operators and employees. It does not produce additional waste, is environmentally friendly and does not damage the substrate meaning it is safe for the material you are cleaning.
Stainless steel, Inox, carbon steel, cast iron, aluminium, titanium, wood, plastic, copper, cupronickel, composites, brick, concrete, stone, certain types of glass, chrome, and titanium coatings, and more.
Rust and oxidation removal, coating removal, surface preparation, degreasing and cleaning of industrial moulds, restoration, selective cleaning, pre-welding treatment, pre-coating treatment.
Laser ablation uses concentrated laser radiation to evaporate impurities from item being cleaned. Ultra-short laser pulses (μs-ms) are applied to the contaminants, generating heat and heat-induced pressure, vaporising it.
Laser cleaning will slightly heat up the substrate, but this heating will be minimal, since a pulsed laser beam is used for laser cleaning. The pulses of light are so short that the substrate doesn't heat up, or only heats up slightly.
Any unwanted contamination and corrosion such as rust, paint, mould, polymers, adhesives, plastic, varnish, oil, etc.
Because a Class 4 laser is used, certain precautions need to be taken and specialised PPE must be used. All of this is governed by rules and regulations. Infrared radiation is invisible to the naked eye and therefore laser approved eyewear is a must. Barricading to protect people in the vicinity of the works and proper housekeeping are imperative too.
