LASMO were fortunate enough to work alongside like minded professionals from many different companies at some great locations around Australia. From the coast to the outback, onshore and offshore but the most exciting of all was, that we travelled this beautiful country coast to coast, doing what we like best.

Global Inspection Support

LASMO has been involved in local Australian inspection support since its inception, providing Senior AICIP and API inspectors along with tube inspection specialists. Laser cleaning has taken off and we are proud to announce that our copyrights have now progressed to the patenting stage. Training of our team is never ending and we now have 3 people with remote pilots licences and CASA approval.

Assisting local companies during the execution of international work was the obvious next step. We are kicking off 2024 with a tube inspection campaign in New Zealand. So, no matter where you are based, LASMO can assist.

Do drop us an email at info@nulllasmo.com.au to see how we can assist or use our Contact Us page to get in touch.

The following information was extracted directly from the SDS provided prior to starting the laser ablation.

The coating seen here is 'Classified as non-hazardous according to criteria of NOHSC.'

Fire & Explosion Hazard:

This product is combustible and may ignite if overheated. Dense fumes are given off from burning material, which may cause headaches, dizziness and irregular breathing if inhaled.

Flammability:

Not flammable under manufacturers' recommended conditions of
use.

Question the Terminology

'Non-hazardous', 'not flammable' and 'is combustible and may ignite' are important terminologies within this SDS which can be confusing. This is better presented visually when 2000W laser power is applied to remove the coating.

Answer for yourself
  1. Is the terminology used within the SDS accurate?
  2. Do you know what this coating is called?

Contact us if you would like the SDS of this coating.

Due to the insulating effect that scale and soot have on a boiler tube, means that the tube-wall temperature can get so hot that the tube itself weakens and can rupture. It goes without saying that more fuel must be used to produce the same amount of heat transfer which increases cost and reduces system reliability and longevity.

Not All Cleaning Methods Are Equal

To determine the most effective approach to remove fouling, every facility needs to look at the type of scale occurring in their boiler. Laser ablation is by far the best solution here in Western Australia. Manual cleaning blends defects and removes material from the substrate whereas lasers do not. Laser removes the soot and scale from the tube walls and ablates corrosion residue from within the crevices of defects. Laser ablation is designed to decontaminate and restore substrates and that facilitates improved NDT detection of failure mechanisms that can lead to catastrophic failure.

Manual cleaning is labour intensive, takes a lot longer and blends defects which is not ideal. On the other hand, our lasers remove contamination and corrosion from within the crevices of defects making it easier to detect.
